What else is available out there for agriculture and tablet compatible please?
Just found this one tonight :
http://openagtoolkit.com/apps/tillage/index.html
it will also sync with https://trello.com/b/5m5yG3Cl/openatk-tillage
may be useful where a farm has several workers and wants to keep track of who has done what - also for a contractor to advise clients of work done / or progress.
Doesn't appear to offer facilty to upload a map of fields eg KML file to show outline of fields .
Still both apps free so worthy of download to have a play with.
Also one to keep an eye on ( for more technically minded ) www.isoblue.org - open source isobus PC
ETC
I've just found this one http://farmlogs.com/farm-management-features/ ... & have got very excited about it! :D
It's a USA product but seems to work perfectly fine for a UK farm.
Not only is it free, but you can put all of your fields in by clicking around the outlines on a (google?) map - a bit like working with Magic maps.
You can add crops - choose from list or add own, add varieties, fert, chemicals, etc.
Log it on the calendar, as it happens & it gets added to that field & crop records
You can add costs, yields & prices & it totals it up.
Record crops in store - grain store, silage, etc
It gives info on local weather & rainfall - even though it's a USA product.
You can add machinery & record maintenance.
There's some vids - http://vimeo.com/user17195917/videos - a bit USA biased but you get the idea.
There's a mobile app, it's cloud stored & there appears to be free email support too.
What does anyone else think about Farmlogs?
Just got to get bro-in-law trained up on his ipad now! :p
The way it 'measures' the field when you add it, I guess it could be useful for a contractor. You then add the field to a specific 'group', ie. different farms.
Adding crops & inputs gives you chance to add different costs & notes.
... & then you can do totals per crop, or field, or group ...
I'm liking Farmlogs more & more!
... especially the 'free' bit! :D
Have a look at 'Farm Manager' by Stringybark software, out of Australia. Its for iphone only so far. I needed something to record paddock operations as they happened. Didnt need the level of complication that most have. Has been working well.
