    Re: Rolling resistance

Greensill & Cameron are certainly known here - but not universally. Only those reading the specialist news feeds would be aware.

I presume the Aus connection is Julie Bishop, our Foreign Minister...

    Hydraulics myths

I recently needed to re-subscribe to a hydraulics newsletter, and as a consequence I'm receiving back issues.

The one below took me a while to understand when I first read it a few years ago, so I...

    Blood oath, Ex! Me too!

On tother hand, should a certain politician (or more, for that matter) be standing on a street corner, I'd be very happy to take advantage & change some fat cats into...

    Re: Rolling resistance

Ha! Well spotted Ex! I hadn't thought about that, but it's obviously a potential trap. Since the roller will be used to consolidate soil on a new dam, it will be used on the level. However, during...

    Re: Rolling resistance

    Good questions Ironhead.

I don't know how the Nebraska test was conducted coz that info came from here:

    http://www.tractordata.com/farm-trac...225-tests.html

No info that I can see if the...

    Rolling resistance

My principal question to the BFF Brains Trust is this: will my MF4225 pull a 7t. sheep's foot (padfoot) roller?

The tractor's Nebraska Test says it will pull 3.6t. How does that figure relate to...

Thanks Paw. Well spotted. I wondered if I had used the correct name coz the shaggy coat suggested something I could not identify exactly.

    Re: I'm a lucky idiot

Quite so. It's the classical dilemma: spend a bucket load of money on a machine to do a job, then figure out if it should be sold or kept until it's needed again.

I have another dam designed and...

    Re: I'm a lucky idiot

One of my snouts remarked privately that such contact could not be made with a standard bucket, and he confirmed what I had wondered about. It would be very bad design, if it was possible normally.

    I'm a lucky idiot

Was picking out the spot to dump the bucket while slewing the 360, not realising I
was still crowding the bucket & pulling in the dipper arm - until the
cutting edge of the bucket hit the right...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

    Done well, FF, thank you!

I tried registering for the JCB online parts, but was unable to. The last data field required the "letters/numbers below" to be entered - but I could not scroll to the...

    Re: Best tractor ever made?

Surely the MF 100 series? I have 3, all still available for work whenever I want!

Got to admit though, none are as pleasant to drive as the MF4225. Superb cab!

Re: Hay baling - old style

    Gawd,zaza!

Your pitchers must have been mighty men. I can't imagine anyone here pitching one bale, never mind two!

As for "good days", seems to me they were good only coz they are old! I'm old...

Re: Hay baling - old style

    Excellent post zaza. Thank you!

I was not familiar with the 701, and had to look it up, but it's design evolution is clear: a stationary baler with a pickup glued to its side. The needles worked...

    Hay baling - old style

    Ah, the memories!

Including some I'd like to forget, like spreading mouldy hay as mulch. It's a wonder I didn't get Farmer's Lung!

And discovering that the top layer of bales on a stack had...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

A very kind offer, thanks FF. I think I know where to find the serial number, but as I remember, it is not very clear. I'll take a look later.

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

Hey FF, take a bow young man, coz you seem to have fixed the problem by remote control.

The need to test the solenoid as you suggested has been niggling me all day, until late this arvo I went to...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

FF - contemplated your post today as I went about other work, and I think you are correct: I should test the solenoid (It's a Woodward 1756ES).

The multimeter established that 24v is being...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

More good questions! It *might* be possible to jumper the solenoid from a battery, but it would be a fiddle which might not prove anything.

I see three wires to the solenoid which I presume allow...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

Thanks FF - good points all, as usual :):)

The injection pump is an in-line unit, and the solenoid pulls the stop lever via a Bowden type cable about 750 long. Several applications of Ballistol...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

    Problem solved - I think!

First, disconnected the flywheel sensor - starter wouldn't operate, so I established that the computer needs a signal.
Tried wedging the throttle open a bit - cannot...

Re: JCB JZ140 engine error codes

On further thought, is the flywheel sensor simply reporting that the engine is turning over at too slow a speed (for whatever reason) or is it controlling that speed by having failed, or has...
