    That's the reason there. You either need to add something to help the microbes or compost and re-use the bedding (as bedding) for a few subsequent years.

    I've had the same thing with 3 cows in the past few weeks, all straight after they calved. Stripped them all dry so the infected quarter reduced to same size as others and then worked some udder mint...

    We extensively graze and out winter but always keep a reserve of haylage for such years. The stack has certainly been depleted this year, but as long as you're aware of the weaknesses in your system...

    Nearly always a 50:50 split for me, so far this "spring": 8 bulls and 6 heifers , would love to have more bull calfs than heifers.

    I use an ivomectin pour-on, does the trick and stops them scratching. Takes a long time for the hair to grow back though!

    Reminds me of Burger king aberdeen angus burgers. if you read the small print on the wall it only has to contain something like 1/8th the genetics of a pure bred angus to make it into the mincer.
