Re: Ford New Holland 8340 SLE help thread

There is a floating plug adjacent to the fuse and relay box. I have not done it myself, but you need an on/off switch to access the codes. You do need to proceed with care armed with the codes. I...

So how far off are we from the end of Mrs May's premiership with all that has been going on. What about another general election?

Gapples might know, it was certainly on the RH side of the tombstone on earlier models.

    Re: Massey 5465 getting hot

Be careful removing the thermostat. On some engines it may allow coolant to bi-pass the rad.

    Re: Fordson major chassis number????

Use the link I have posted above.
The casting codes that are usable are:
    F 19 X
    A 7 D

Looks as though the number near the clutch is not complete.
    X is '55 and D is' 60.
    So far it looks...

    Re: Massey 5465 getting hot

It sounds like it might be linked to the transmission working harder.

Re: recommendations for a first Tractor

Do you mean a side arm flail hedgetrimmer? What other duties? Have you steep slopes? There could be a massive difference in price, age, make and size within your budget. Do you need a loader?
  13. Re: MF124 square baler will not knot, splitting the twine. Any advice?

I don't know anything about the MF124 but you could do with a bit more explanation for someone who might. Presumably you have a fault on one side only so have you done the obvious and compared. If...

    Re: Tedder?

If buying second hand be careful with hidden wear. I have an old Fella (Reco) useful 8m but not well built so would stay clear. Also worth checking tine prices.

Re: Ford New Holland 8340 SLE help thread

Make sure the the quick lift switch just behind the gear levers is off (the end nearest seat down). Start the tractor and cycles the position lever up and down a few times and see if you get anything.

Have you got the quick lift switch turned off? I take it you have done the cycling of the hitch lever?

    You need Gapples again :D
It sounds as though you are getting some air into the system somewhere, I think there might also be a steering priority valve that could be at fault. Does the lift work...

Amazing to see these old tractors so smart and cared for. They seemed old even when i was a kid in the late 60s.

Re: IH Hydro 84 Cylinder Head Gasket

We have, as agrimax suggests, run 15w/40 in our IH 895 for years, and the same oil goes in the Ford 8340. Most of the modern multi grades will spec backwards if you see what i mean.
