    You see - there lies the nub of why your costs will be lower:

    Outwintering cows will halve the feed and overhead costs that I have.

    Our soils and climate do not allow for that.

    It's one of those days!

    Been crunching numbers and we are losing 1 for every kg of liveweight we produce...if we put in a realistic wage cost. Take out the realistic wage and it's still losing...

    Where would I be able to get access to average sales and costs for farms in the UK/Scotland? I see some on the defra website but their just for England and Wales.

  14. Should I do something about the aphids on my oats?

    About one in 20/30 tillers has a sizable aphid colony on a few seeds. Is this threshold kind of populations or will they not bother too much?

    Lots of aphids about on trees etc this year!

    What are you using to control BLW in new leys?

    The only thing I can find that works well enough is sheep. At a rate of 5 per acre.
