Re: A Pair of Jaguars in 1st Cut

Collies - they work about as far away as I'm happy to fly it. I've had it a long long way away before. If it looses connection it's supposed to fly back to where it took-off but I don't really want...

Re: A Pair of Jaguars in 1st Cut

Had the Phantom out again when the twin mowers were working. It's been pretty unsettled so far and despite being cut dry, was quite wet when we got it lifted.

    Re: Which breed of bull?

If you want to milk the progeny why not use a Shorthorn? Milky daughters and easy fleshing sons, a premium from Woodheads and a great temperament.

Re: Weigh beams for under crush

We've got 2 sets of TruTest bars and a stress cell - have had them for years and can't complain about any of them. They work pretty hard and have never let us down.
The time they take to stabilize...

    Re: Cattle weighing

We run TruTest gear and have absolutely no issues with it. The XR3000 handles all the cattle and sheep weighing through either a panel reader or an EID wand. I can't remember what ours cost but it...

Re: A Pair of Jaguars in 1st Cut

    Thanks,

JJT - I knew someone would come out with that! It would have looked even better if he had clattered the stone that was sitting there despite being marked with a stake.

    Cheers

Re: A Pair of Jaguars in 1st Cut

Combine was out earlier this week so had a another go. Unfortunately there were no spare hands to take some photos of the filming but I'll try and get some when we cut the oats next week.

Re: New sheep weigh scales ?

If you go electronic, are you planning or do you think you might want to go down the EID recording route?

We run TruTest kit (XR3000 and panel) on our old weigh crate and now on a home-made...

Ulscots - well spotted! The field is actually on the left. The wagon with the yellow cab at the start and the Claas pulling a stock trailer are heading towards Springholm which is only about 2 miles...

mickeymatbro, davidroberts -- what depth were you working at? We had a Sumo in at the beginning of the week and were very impressed by it. If there's a noticeable difference in grass growth there...

    Maxammon vs Propcorn

Using Propcorn but fancy the extra protein that Maxammon can give us.
Would we need to bruise then put through a feeder wagon before putting it in the store - would we then need to sheet it?

A Pair of Jaguars in 1st Cut

  18. Re: Claas Jaguar 850 compared to John Deere 6910

From my experience the setup of the chopper is far more important than power.
Had an 850 and an 870 in the same field a few years ago - heavy SW Scotland 1st cut - and the 850 was doing 5/6 kph more...

    Re: Schmallenberg vaccine

We were pretty keen to vaccinate all our cattle but our vet says it cannot be advised for animals that are already pregnant. For us it comes about a month too late so we'll have to run the risk.

Re: Mounted Sprayer with Front tank!

Can you use a front tank properly if it doesn't have a pump?
I'm thinking push mix into it when loading and sit on the headland sucking it back when you need it.

Be very careful with a power harrow - our experience (albeit on lighter land) with them means they will never go near a reseed again. They just destroy the soil structure and is a very expensive pass...
