    Re: lely robot project

My office is going next door to the clean room for the computer n stuff, I am going to make it all insulated and warm and dry, timber lino floor etc so wellies would not be allowed in. But I saw a set up that had the computer in a small 5ft square room with concrete floor and a aqua drain in it so it could be hosed easily if in with dirty wellies. What everyones opinon on this.

Now clean room floor coverings. I am thinking concrete floor with rubbert mats fitted on top with a few holes cut in over the drain, so the chemicals from robot don't eat into concrete and corrode it. Thoughts?

Theres not much happening at the moment, shed is mostly sheeted just tricky bits to sheet to the old roof. Slurry tank starts in a few weeks thats the next phase.

Is there any reinforcing steel tied between the walls and floor?

How do you plan on supporting the slats? Columns and beams or a central wall?

Yes there is starter bars from floor up the wall and folded mesh in to. The next bit is setting the pillars in the center to carry the beams and slats

Lookin good!! Great to see a bit of work being done on an existing farm, not some sterile new-build (not that there's anything wrong with new build) look forward to seeing more.

Are you fitting a head rail to the trough? Who makes those?

Our old slurry channel was the same.

Built in the late 1970's I believe.

Can I ask how high the outer edge of the trough is? Also head rail design? We having trouble with cows getting knocked in trough it seems hard to have a head rail that isn't too restrictive

The feed trough is 600mm high 1.5m wide. Not sure of the exact measurements of headrail off hand but I, ll look it up for you. Never had any bother with old trough when it was 675mm high

What did you end up using for the floor covering? I was visiting a robot farm on fir who started in March and had used resin paint on the floor that was lifting already! I'm thinking swimming pool changing room type tiles

I put mats down in office and clean room from farmat. Just hope they don't stain or go off colour from the brush cleaner.

Keen to hear more and see more pictures!

About the materials, we're running two robots and the "working area" and all is just plain concrete, what i've heard of those materials is just they're a nuisance and pain in the ass after some time, so when we're gonna put a new shed, it's gonna be just concrete again. Relatively easy to keep clean and it stays.

    Re: lely robot project

JD everytime and others who have robots, if it is possible, I think it would also be interesting to see how your cows were milked PRIOR to your technical transformation!!

Perhaps we could start a separate thread of 'my old parlour' photos? I'm sure many of you recorded for posterity and historical evidence the last milking in the parlour? How else will our grandchildren understand what we're on about?!!
