    Mad ideas

The thread in 'Crops' on kaleage set me thinking about mad ideas in farming.

    Kaleage,

    Wood-chip corrals,

Are there any others you can think of?

    Three-wheel bikes?

    Glastir?

Deciding that using Australian iron ore conveyor belt mat would be a good thing at the feed face ... then deciding that the mat was too wide .... then deciding that it ought to be cut in half .... then finding out the reason it's so chuffing heavy is that there is 4mm steel braided wire running every 5mm down its length that had rubber moulded in to it ... then find out that even a diamond tipped blade in a stihl saw struggles or that an ordinary cutting blade lasts less than 3' before it has worn out ... then discovering that it was possible to pull the wire out with rope & a skid steer (not a very tidy cut but the relief boys) ....

Now we just have to cut it across the width 11 times to get it around 530mm of stanchion and the job is a good un ......

It was a Keenan , the old type with paddles and a good plughole to wash out easily. Yes it works - cheap cement and best done at night when no-one can see what you're up to..
