    Rape row widths

Quite a few people round here are drilling rape with precision seeders at wide row widths and have read of one using strip till with drill on the back.
As all my winter crops are DD it seems a shame to have to till for sunflowers & maize so I am in the process of making a strip till with drill on the back.

I have had a problem with winter barley straw in the rape so I was thinking if I strip till for rape, that would solve the straw problem as trash discs would move it inter-row.

The problem is that my row width would be min of 50cm apart, I have read for precision drilled rape 35 to 40cm is ideal.

I could set width at 70cm and go over twice but that would be an awful amount of wheelings.

    Any thoughts??

Subsoiling at 45cm here. 50cm would be no prob.

I must admit i am not sure, I will ask my technician next week. For conventional sowing we sow 2 kg:ha and aim for 25 seeds per square meter, so for the same rate that will be 8 cm along the row but I think I have heard the for precision drilling the rate is less.
