    6 cylinder international project.

    Shame all the old stuff has been lost on this! at Christmas I was so hacked of with the speed of this machine that until now I've abandoned it. However this week I have fitted the rear end from an IH 278 ( I think ) industrial , with the fast transmission, stroll on what a difference! Took it out for a blast last night and from the seat it feels like the 30 mph mark has been well broken and I have not had it flat out yet due to road conditions! All smiles now and back to finishing it of when I get the chance. I will post pics when I have something to see!

    I've clocked hydros & 574s with fast back ends at 35/36mph :-)

    Were the fast back end 574's faster than 674's? As 674's were all the one speed as I understand it?

    Do you know what the difference was with the fast back end? Was it the gearbox or Diff ratio that was different? Sounds like what I could be looking for

    It would have been cyrush sent you the info john, yes there is a plate with with trans numbers. They are A, B, C & D with other letters codes. If cyrush is reading im sure he will re post them as i cant remember them all off the top of my head. Sorry.

    I remember that list being posted and I seem to remember that " BS " was the quickest combination. Could we get it up again as I would like to check out what the two dead backends I have consist off. cheers

    IIRC A= slow trans
    B= Fast trans
    R= slow diff
    S= fast diff

    with any combo above possible

    X & Y to do with PTO

    Plate on LH side of trans beside footplate

    LUK or Rockford unit? I machined the pot depth slightly shallower on a 584 once that was slipping but not worn the plate down and stuck a new pressure plate on!!!

    95 series would have the Rockford wouldn't they? What's in a 1056? Or just stick a Turbo clutch from a 1455 in!!

    Were you working it hard? What state the flywheel? We had a problem with a 674 fly wheel years ago an asked a machine shop to skim it. They on skimmed the wearing surface and not where the clutch cover bolts on. ( I did not realise at the time) Consequently the new clutch did not last long.

    no its not been worked hard , just been doing a fari bit of rowing up and general yard duties, you only notice it when you come to howl up the road. its got an luk clutch in. i did wonder if the flywheel could be machined of at the side where the cover bolts on to get more pressure , but how muchwould you dare? if you do too much at it, it wont clear will it?

    I think we only de-creased the pot depth by a maximum 1mm. Too much and it will drag when warm/hot!!!
