its not too bad only having a half share split between 10 of us, also a couple of the lads in the syndicate allready have a horse with the NGR stable, (nicky richards) and are related to him i can easily spend the same on a night out after playing rugby that i spend/month on fees, and as i get older don't seem to get out as much on a saturday night and hung the boots up aswell

the horse might win you will feel good..

you get the right royal knocked out of you on a rugby park and then go on the smash -- win or lose, you aint gonna feel that good for the next 2 days........... not unless your about 20

theres more to life than drink.. bloke in a pub told me that

So, without wishing to be rude, is it something which is likely to earn money, or is it an expensive hobby? Or is it like gambling - if you get a good run you've paid for it many times over, but 80% of them will never make much back?

we haven't joind the syndicate to make money, the 10 of us enjoy our days at the races, if we're fortunate enough to win a few races with him we will make some money he's only a 4 year old so hopefully have a few years with him to have fun and hopefully put a or 2 into the bank, the cost / month each is cheeper than some girls pay for a haircut in london and i could easily spend more at a weekend when i played rugby then went out with the lads after

well he's entered again for the 335 at kelso on saturday and the 115 at carlise on monday , i know he's good but he's not that good so looking at the cards and going i would think kelso would suit him better but i'm not a racehorse trainer hopefully he'll run on saturday as more of us in the syndicate will be able to se him run rather than monday, please don't blame me if any of you try your luck and it doesn't work out i'm only passing the message on

would love AP to ride him but he managed that milestone today, he has ridden some horses for our trainer before so who knows maybe some day the champ will be bringing him home clear of the field

Don't they enter them in races they have no hope of winning to lengthen their odds, then put them in a race they can win and clear up?

not much point in that as it costs you money every time they're entered also racing board will have something to say about that they all have rating numbers so you need to find races with horses of similar ratings obviously if they keep winning the rating goes up and you have to find different races to enter, young horses that are new to racing are allowed a few races before getting rated but will get odds on their breeding, ours started off @95 then dropped a bit last season before rising to somewhere @106 atm after a better start this season

7th out of 10, altho 2 pulled up including the fav, the guys on course were talking him up b4 the race but the step up 2 classes was just a bit much for him with the 16lb handicap spoke with trainer yesterday and he was happy enough with his run and has spoken to the handicapper who have said they were probably a bit heavy on him from his win so looks like he'll come back down a few pounds, which will help in finding another race that suits, but it wouldnt be racing if you won everytime

    Re: new hobby

well after a few close runs and a couple of wins the guy that had the main share decide he wanted to sell him so a couple of months ago he was entered in a race with the one and only champion jockey AP McCoy at the helm to come in 3rd then again a couple of weeks later to win by a good margin, but he was enterd into the sales at doncaster soon after, but even with a couple of decent runs with the top jockey on board he wasn't making much money so the trainer baught him back for 3k, only for him to go on and win his next 3 races very comfortably but on the upside the 10 of us that had a half share have now got a new 1 ALL to ourselves a nice 4yr old filly going by the name of Mardale who had her first run at Doncaster today coming 2nd out of 13 by 1 1/4 lengths at 4/1 putting a few quid in the kitty straight away so here's hoping she's a good 1
