Aye C'mon up to Clogher this Saturday for the craic!! I was contemplating buying some at a sale in the South, but was warned off by a couple of people because of potential disease risk (BVD)

If you're interested there's a dispersal sale coming up at Fintona, the day after the winter fair. I kinda know the guy who's retiring, it should be a good herd of cows.

The same men are buying cows in Clogher that are buying in Kilrea. The quality of stock just isn't as good. Clogher has about 1300 beef cattle and about 10 dairy stock, no way is it a dairy sale. IMO, all the big dairy men in Mid-Ulster/East Co Tyrone would say Kilrea would be their local main dairy sale.

I know him very well and he is good and straight , he says that it is getting easier as he has all repeat customers , all stock are bought in groups direct from the farms , he wont buy in the marts , another member on here sang his praises after buying a lot of cows from him , Shep is his name.

That's who I was thinking, the one on his own often runs up another high profile dealer, good if you happen to e selling at the time, though have heard a few stories of him getting 'caught' and looking for a load of money ack.

I've heard that some of the sellers from around Markethill have started to take their cows to Kilrea now, quite a run.

Theres always Moira, " average" heifers aren't any dearer than the other markets, just the top end. Some of the same dealers buy there as well so they can't be much different, next sale is on the 18th hopefully most of the buyers will have received their SFP by then.

i never buy dairy cattle only sell. why do dairy farmer need dealer, why not buy themselves. would you want someone bringing you home a woman you never seen before to she steps off the trailer. not me.as red (op) has often told me he likes a sneeky peeky. but then again i,m not sure if he was talking about cows

Some won't take the time to leave the yard, that I can understand even if I don't agree, what I don't understand is the farmer who is in the market, watches the sale and buys off the dealer before the cattle even go up the taildoor. As a seller that's annoying.

i don't buy of dealers but i can understand why a farmer would, when a dealer would come with a cow or hf and it didin't suit you don't have to take it,the dealer would soon learn what sort of stock would suit,i think we all like a peeky,it's the sneeky one's that are more exciting
