So you should be laying it at 6 inchs with steel if inside a shed. Are you power floating ?
The formwork will cost you 5 a form a week (3 metres long)
    Your want a vibrating tamp,
Your be paying about 85 a cube depending how keen your local ones are using a RC35 mix.

I was talking with a builder the other day about a concrete sleeper road and wandering wether it would be good enough or should i go for concrete.

He said it would cost approx 22 per square meter to do it in concrete.

That's roughly what I've worked out sleeper tracks work well for cow tracks looked at some

How good is the base and is it on built up ground?

If you have a good well compacted base I don't know if I'd bother with steel unless it has really heavy use, definitely min 6" depth. We have just done a shed floor with pan mixer and I reckon it cost about 100/m3 with a roller screen finish. Setup was simple with 3x2 timbers screed set to depth using a dry concrete mix. I've been told that fibres wont offer anything but stop cosmetic surface cracking.

16 to 18 per square metre including supply and laying of 6" deep with fibre I reckon. Base and steel extra.

People, farmers especially think mesh is for strength, its main role is for anticracking.

So if I make a concrete beam with no steel it will be as strong as one with steel?

A floor slab SHOULD be supported evenly throughout and the mesh will be about half way through - a beam is only supported at each end and the steel will be within 30 mm of it's bottom edge.

I was only teasing. I would definately use steel on any beam.

The concrete accounts barely half the strength of a floor slab, the sub base is every bit if not more important, and as for steel if the concrete is laid correctly in the first place with low slump concrete there should be no need for steel, better to go another couple of inches thicker.

    Re: concrete floor prices

I have a 1380sqft concrete farm building with a soft earth floor I want the floor concreted 6" plus steel mesh reinforcing to prevent cracking and a smooth finish to allow me to paint or seal it plus a 40ftx 12ft outside apron forecourt.

In total this comes to 172 sq metres of concrete supplied and laid access is OK for readymix lorries, in Hertfordshire , in getting quotations what is the fair going rate I should expect to pay for this work per sq metre ? Thanks.
