    Question insurance alternatives

We insure our farm with NFU but want to look for alternatives. Can't find any that deal with farms and general insurance people don't have a clue. Can anyone recommend a suitable company please

I use these guys, and they've always been very helpful.
Having said that, I am only a smallholding, and I've never had to make a claim.
Might be worth a phone call though?
    They are based in Wales.

    Robert Butler & associates 01827 57077 Tamworth.
They do my tractor insurance. They do farm insurance aswell. Tell them your NFU quote pretty sure they'll do their best to beat it.

    NIG - Farm Web.
Ask for a local broker, there should be one in each patch..

Try Farmers and Mercantile - been the cheapest for us. I try and insure for "the big claim" rather than using it as a savings account - ie claiming regularly for minor or fair ware type of claims.

We use Cornish Mutual and are very happy with them. Not sure how far north they go.

I have tried to get quotes from them, but because I had one year with a lot of claims they did not want to quote and told me I had better stick with NFUM!!!

The NFUM may not always be the cheapest but I have always had good service and farmers should not forget that they support the farming unions to the tune of 5.5 million a year.

wouldn't come up to us, said limit was south of bristol.

just tried a re-quote against NFU with a company called 'County Insurance' and they were even more expensive........ so another year with NFU.

I tried Mark Woolgar, a broker from near Doncaster, specialising in farming sector. He came out and had a chat, really got the feel for my business. In the end I stayed with my local broker, but only because he couldn't beat them. For service Iwould recommend him highly.

I'm with F&M but wont be next year. Service is getting worse and worse. Used to be fantastic. Not had problems with claims so far but will get out before I do.
