    2 Row Cubicle Shed Height? Pitch?

    Looking to build a small 2 row cubicle shed for fresh cows.

    Probably 75' feeding down outside with self locking yokes.

    How high would you build it to the eaves? Any preference to roof pitch?

    Will be on sand cubicles i think total width is 40' + 3' overhang for feed.

    Any help would be great cheers.

    In Cumbria, I would have thought 3' overhang was a waste of time - we have 10' on our cow house & that's too small sometimes! 6-8' as a minimum I would have thought?

    With any house for cows, fresh air, lack of moisture & ventilation are the key things as cows excrete 40-53 litres of waste (diet depending) per day and each cow is the equivalent of a single bar electrical heater in terms of heat given off.
    If it was my building, never less than 20 deg and ideally 22.5deg pitch. On 22.5 deg, the constant is that the roof will rise 3.97 in every 12 (regardless of units), so if you know your eave height, you can work out your apex.
    Again, an open protected ridge will allow rapid venting without risk of rain getting in too much. This is useful if you don't have the numbers to drive the stack effect all the time otherwise you could just open the ridge in any case. There is a formula for determining the gap but I can't find it at the mo.

    Height of eaves would be determined by what you are intending to do around the sides of the building eg perimeter feed so that a tractor & wagon needs to pass under the overhang? If that was the case, then 12' at the very least but again this will be determined by length of overhang and roof pitch.
    Draw it out to scale on graph paper using various roof pitches.

    Generally some good advice on ventilation from Bald Rick, I would however disagree with needing over 20 deg pitch. If designed properly a 15 deg pitch will work just as well unless you think snow build up is going to be an issue.

    The most important area is the ridge design. If the building has others along side it can be more complicated to get fresh clean air in and some more details would be required.     Not sure Prof. Robertson would agree with you ......... his line is that most agri sheds aren't fit for purpose and anything housing eating & breathing livestock should start with a MINIMUM pitch of 18 deg with 22.5 the ideal to drive the stack effect.
