Rural Crime Initiative Tuesday 20th January 2015 @ 1230 LS Smellie & Sons Ltd Strathaven Rural Centre.
While crime in Strathaven and Stonehouse is falling month-on-month, Im sorry to report that rural crime across Avondale is at an all-time high. With Quad bikes top of the thiefs shopping list, along with fuel and farm equipment; each month we see tens of thousands of pounds worth of farm assets stolen and as one of the four locally elected members; Id like to see t...his problem tackled!
Im therefore working in partnership with Police Scotland, LS Smellie & Sons, Avondale Vets and the NFU to set-up an Avondale Rural Crime Initiative, where in partnership with the local farming community, we do more as a community to eradicate this unacceptable trend.
To kick this initiative off, were hosting an event, open to all farmers across Avondale on Tuesday 20th January 2015 (1230-1500). A massive thanks to LS Smellie & Sons for allowing us to use their boardroom at the Strathaven Rural Centre and Avondale Vets & NFU for their support in getting this important local initiative off the ground.
The following indicative agenda has been put in place and Id like to ask as many of you from the local farming community to join me and Police Scotland!
12:30 13:00 Meet and greet
13:00 13:30 Crime prevention presentation from Police Scotland
13:30 15:00 Surgeries to discuss individual concerns about local rural crime in private.
