    145,000 gns texel

Did anyone see the tup on Countryfile?

What a tremendous big head, black tear ducts, black nose and big long lugs, pointing in the right direction.

Adam didn't mention anything about feet and throat abscesses.

Didn't see him but have had my fill of big headed texel lambs this spring.
Why can't breeders breed for a narrower skull?
Pedigree breeding and commercial farming is often poles apart.

I agree, my father always said make sure the tups head isn't to big it will cause a lot of problems at lambing.
in fact a few years back a friend of mine bought a big texel tup and put them on small Welsh ewes, because it was all the rage. I did mention the big head but he took no notice, had a terrible time pulling every lamb and lots snuffed it!
we very rarely pull a lamb at home as I stuck to the old mans advice.
by the way how do they get their money back on that expensive tup, the worlds gone mad!

    Didn't see said story.......
Spent some time looking at the Texels at the Paris Show last week, in common with most of the other terminal breeds it was noticeable how much finer the heads were!
Nothing like the Bulldozers that are common here.......drifting off into lateral thinking....I wonder if things would be different if the majority of breeders were women!
Also interesting to read some Texel blurb that French breeders are increasingly sourcing sires from the UK to improve their French Texels.

I suppose Eejit and Syndicate can sound the same.

I would not argue that strong heads are not a problem ,but flat broad shoulders are a 1000 times more problematic ,its rare that one cant get a head out ,very common that the lamb gets stuck at the shoulder especially with only one leg coming out.
Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.
