    Straight fertiliser or compound.

    I have a 150 ha dairy farm should I be using straight fertiliser or compound. I'v always used compound out of habit up till now.

    Straights.
    Soil analysis will probably show your grazing fields need very little P & K
    Conversly your silage fields need lots of K, Depending on FYM / Slurry most cost effective way to put that on is MOP - 60% K

    Start with soil analysis then you know what you need,

    That's what I was thinking. I think i'll change next year. Does it mater what time of year do you put MOP on?

    Autumn, definitely not in Spring or you will cause staggers.

    P and K best applied in the autumn, except in cutting systems where aftercut fertiliser is used.

    Most of the dairy farmers I work with use Urea first thing in the spring, straights are cheaper.
