    Extending Milking Parlour Pit

Collecting yard slatted tank is tight up behind milking parlour.
Has anyone ever removed some of the slats and installed a pre-cast pit shaped structure onto the tank walls to facilitate the expansion of the parlour.

What we did many years ago ....

Made the pit narrower with chequer plate, so that the cows stood at 2'6" centres (instead of 3') then we got 14 cows in where we used to have 10.

    Could you do that???

currently only milking through a 7 unit and want to go to 16.
New parlour from scratch is too expensive and don't like double ups.
Was going to move external walls to give the extra width but trying to find solution for extending pit.
    Thanks

Could you not build the pit up from the bottom of that tank and fill to the same level as the rest of the pit?
