    bull calves to bullocks

Hi my bull calves are currently up to 3 months old.

I plan to sell them in the marts in the autumn time but dont want to sell them entire.

What is the best way to castrate them and when is the best time to do it?

should i get them onto meal first?

    Thanks

Ours get cut at 8 to 9 months. They grow well until then but aren't allowed to go bully.

We do something similar, vet cuts them at a similar age. By that age ours are on to a cereal ration and don't stand still for very long afterwards. You could cut them at any age though

Agree, but I think you get the most out of them by leaving them entire for as long as you can as long as they don't start to turn bully in appearance.

I'm sure you're right; I can't find the performance figures at the moment but it's something like 10% less growth on steers to weaning and a further 10% less growth for heifers so making the most of the bull before cutting makes a lot of sense to me.

How long before putting them in the ring should you cut/squeeze them. Are u better doing it earlier to get them to thrive again?
