    VHS to PC

    my pc has an hdmi port. If i had a scart to hdmi converter could i record vhs to my computer, maybe with some simple software?

    Almost for certain the HDMI port on the computer will be an output only port. You would be best looking for a USB to SCART or Phono / RCA connector device to connect and capture VHS tape.

    I transferred a few home videos on VHS to DVD by simply recording from the old tape to a DVD recorder.
    From the discs it is possible to grab sections to the computer if required.
    Anyone with material recorded on VHS which they aren't happy to lose really should be looking into some sort of transfer as they are not going to be playable for ever even if a suitable machine is available.
    I found the sound had deteriorated quite a bit on a couple of cheaper tapes admittedly not stored in ideal conditions.
