    7 core cable

Hi all, what amperage can be put through a single core of 7 core cable, as used on trailer lights? Thanks.

Heres a guide, but it depends on if you have the cheap version with all 7 wires the same or the HD version with thicker wires and an even thicker white earth wire. Sometimes with everything on with commercial multi-bulb lamps it could be possible to get the earth wire up near its working limit hence the HD version.

Thanks FF, all wires the same but should be able to stay within the limits, didn't know you could get that heavier cable, will have to get a roll.

IIRC the 6+1 HD type was the sort of standard commercial spec. The opposite used to be cheapo light boards before foglights where they used 5 core light duty stuff- no blue for fog lights and just stuff both tail lights on one plug terminal- before the days of L&R side lights being fused separately in the vehicle.

Of course now with all these LED lights we could use the loads on them are negligible compared to old fashioned tungsten bulbs so for that application you'd get away with pretty light cables.
