Devastating. Farming next to town, we've had 4 large barn fires since 1970. Two were proven to have been arson. Luckily, there were no animals involved but large amounts of fodder were destroyed in all four.

On this side of the pond, all too often the farm is there for decades and the "town" comes closer to it

I have a newspaper cutting here somewhere relating to a court case re a hayshed fire here in 1942. I remember my Father say that the two of the bays had beans and peas, presumably cut by a binder, and when the fire reached them it really took off. The fire was caused by two employees one of whom said at the court case that they said there was too much foddering to do here, the other said we will burn the hayshed. I think they got 6 months in prison. The hayshed is still here and parts of it until recent years had charred timber.

Another fire from the same region - 1,600 round bales caught fire Monday

Also a small update on the earlier fire

It's tempting for arsonists. We had a bale stack in store for Brigg Lincolnshire Power station. They were supposed to have it insured, but saved the premium. They never paid us out, about 30,000 worth of straw.
    Not a good client!!!
