    Forson Major

    Hello all,
This topic has been discussed a few times! I need help to determine what year model my Fordson Major Diesel is so I can purchase the right manual.

I've read other discussions and I can't find the serial number on an aluminium plate, near the battery firewall plate, on the right hand side of the upper engine block between #1 and #2.
I'll keep looking as I clean her though.

I do have some part numbers that may help a Fordson guru. Cylinder head - AE4, Engine block (near the alternator) - N16X, Gearbox - J20Z, a bracket above the PTO has the number (995203 A. The A is actually below the numbers), another part number I found EIADKN, then under it is IF 1.

The gearbox is 6 speed with the low and Hi reverse.

I hope this little bit of information from a complete novice, can help a Fordson boffin come up with the year model.

    Thanks, Andrew

The gearbox number suggests July 20th 1956. The number on the engine block suggests November 16th 1955... Just be interesting to see if anyone who properly knows comes up with the same or not!

How long were the engine block castings left to stand before machining and fitting onto a tractor?
Don't itch for something if you're not prepared to scratch for it.

Not long in those days I would guess.

    This is quite useful:

It does tie up with Agrimax's suggested dates.

The engine does appear to be a few months adrift but at 60 + years on it may not be original. I don't think you can obtain any dates from the other codes.

Incidentally the Fordson Pages forum is good if you own a Major.
