Re: One MF35 engine, 2 back ends

In the 60s - 70s there was a company who stuck two tractors together a bit like a Doe but the other way round insofar as the driver sat on the front tractor. The tractors could be of different makes. Take the front axle off one tractor and replace it with a long drawbar with a ring hitch which then was coupled to the front tractor. The driver sat on the front tractor and controlled the rear tractor with rods running along the top of the bonnet. No steering to bother about with of course, the rear tractor just followed the front one. It would have been much easier if the brakes and clutch had been hydraulic.

But like the Doe, you only had the power of one tractor at the PTO and the linkage was whatever was on the back tractor. Cheap 4wd though. When I saw it demonstrated I think there was a Major on the front and Nuffield on the back. It looked 'orrible but he was ploughing when you wouldn't have gone with a 2wd. I presume that you could use both diff. locks but it might be a bit tricky on the headlands if the back one didn't disengage !

That rings a bell. Had a quick Google but can't find anything about it.

I saw the dual tractor at work and so I hope you are not insinuating that I am pre-Caxton.

Yes, that looks like it but the one I saw didn't have a cab and as I said I think it was a Major/Nuff. concoction.
