Pump on Tanker for Pipe System - Seal Problem

We use out Redrock & NC Tankers for pumping slurry with the pipes but we always have this problem with the seal leaking slurry onto the ground when pumping. Its the rubber seal between the gearbox and the pump.

There are two nuts which you can tighten to help stop it but the seal starts to smoke/burn and a few loads later it leaks again. One of the tankers must need a new seal now cause it runs out like a tap and the mess it makes after a few loads makes the area messy.

Does anyone else have this problem or knows of a fix? It kind of sucks when your on the side of a road and the slurry starts running across it. We sometimes use a drum underneath to catch it when the slurry is very thin but its a bit of a hassle.

    Cheers

You need to replace the packs around the shaft

Replace the packing but it ma have worn the shaft. If it has no amount of packing will seal it, will have to come out to repair the shaft.

Just done one on Monday, jurop pump on a Hi-spec. Quite straightforward to do just unbolt the impellor off shaft and dismantle forward from there. Everything will be quite tight on shaft though!!

How often would you guys change the packing ring and is there a method as to how tight you tighten the two external nuts?

When we get a new tanker, they start to leak from the start and you never seem to make it leak free. Tightened one today and it lasted 5 load before it started to leak all over the place.

How much is a packing ring by the way and is it a case of going to your local tanker dealer for it?
