    IH Tractors

Well I just thought since Fords and MF have been covered we might as well have some IH or even Case IH Tractors, suppose I had better get it started off!!

Yes they do, or mix it with Couldn't Afford Somthing Else!! I know the Maxxum was a good tractor it was not a patch on the 9 and 1056 and was really a David Brown, not knocking DB but its not an IH.

1988 CIH 7110 - it was a beast, the early ones were hot

1991 CIH 7110 - it was less hot, but still good, appart from the obvious front axle issues

Old, very old IH 460 - 6 cylinder petrol and needed a tune up about twice a week

1976 IH 1066 loading an IH tandem with corn. The tandem had a petrol V8 and went quite well when it was in tune

1989 IH 1680 in soy beans with a 1020 flew head

cracking photos there, what makes you say the 956 and 1056 is better than the maxxum? a 5150 would out preform them any day and every day of the week, i know the 56 series sound great and are nice for couple of hours work but a maxxum with cluthcless shuttle, powershift, electro hydraulics and a cummins engine, air con ect is a nicer place to sit

I must admit that Cummins engine is good, but a IH one sounds nicer, I just like the look of the 55s and 56s, especially with the IH cheesecutter grille, I reckon a shuttle and a few mods on a 1056 would have made it one heck of a tractor. I have the MX 135 but I prefer the old 1255XL, not as easy to drive but just goes and pulls harder, the 5288 is even nicer in my opinion, its quieter than the MX and the cab design is over 20 years older. Its hard to put and not knocking the following tractors, but its like someone that would rather be driving a say Ford 7810 than a brand new Zetor of the same power, some people would like the new tractor, others would rather be on the Ford, personal preference really. Some nice pics coming on here!

+1 allround daveb. 56s good, but 5150 much much better apart from the steering took too many turns lock to lock. 5100 6cyl tractors take some beating even now 20 years on from their launch imho. Great thread.

i can understand what your saying there they are an iconic tractor no doubt, would love a 1455xl to play with dont know how long it would take for the novelty to wear of tho, i can see what you mean about new tractors and tbh id rather drive the older more manual tractors actually feels like you are doing something but for the best of both worlds (comfort and reliability the 5100 series and other similar aged tractors, mf 3600, ford 7840 ect are about as modern as i like, but i may just be strange
your 5288 does look a fair tractor how many hp is she 200?

    Re: IH Tractors

I never tire of driving my 1255XL even though you somtimes need octopuss arms when doing so and the 5288 is lovely, best seat ever, fully hydraulic, like an arm chair. The 5288 was putting out 175hp on the pto, just after I got it, before having a well needed engine oil change and also its gained power after a few days hard graft so yes I would reckon it would now be 180 on the shaft, which will be a good 200hp on the engine, I will say one thing that all owners that have worked them hard say, by god she can pull!

I have a soft spot for the old IH stuff but I would not want to return to the noisy, slow and heavy clutched 1990 956 from our heap of shyte 8340.

Very nice SD, that looks a good job there. In the 80's there was one sat unused for years in a yard near us. Nobody interested... How times have changed eh... Also there was one sold local to me about 5 years ago with a 6.354 perkins in it.

    Nice 1455.

I think we'll have to bring this girl over from Holland for our GrassLass video.

Very nice - must be a rare beast, more so with the 6354 - have an old 634 down the back of me yard, had a digger on it, put Hiab on instead but not used much. No many 634 here, mostly industrial versions
