    Why are some herbicides are not suitable for spot spraying

    Just wondering why are some herbicides like thistle x are not suitable for spot spraying?

    I suspect it could be considered as an 'off-label' use.
    They won't state you can use it like that because the variables around how the operator applies it are too unpredictable.
    If not doing something silly like spraying when too windy you are unlikely to have any ill effects.
    But like the maker, I aren't recommending you do it - it's your own decision and risk assessment..

    There are people much more knowledgeable on this subject than myself, but as an example, Forefront is supposed to be mounted sprayer only. However, I (ahem!) know people who have used it in a knapsack for spot spraying docks and ragwort with great success and no issues whatsoever.

    So I think you at least need to distinguish whether it's not suitable for knapsack use, or not permitted for knapsack use, as that is two very different things.
