Robotic Milkers, and other Lely products, How much do they cost?

We are thinking of changing to Robots, roughly how much does each milking station cost? does anyone graze while milking robots, and how do you manage it?

also roughly how much are the slurry scraping robots? and the silage pusher?

any thoughts on designing sheds for automated management would be appreciated.

    regards

For info on pasture based systems, search for automated milking systems in NSW. (Note, AMS is the term used in Aus., not "robots".) There are numerous refs, particularly to research in New South Wales.

Here's a link to a video on the subject:

At the end, you should see a link to further info, and another video of NZ experience. These videos show Lely machines, but De Laval has fitted numerous rotaries with robots.

Teaching the cows that they get access to new pasture only after being milked seems to be key.

Great video, clearly farm layout is key as well as having a good network of cow tracks

If you are thinking of robots, best get in the car & visit existing setups. Talk to the users, most tell you how it is ( preferably without the salesman slavering in your ear)

How much any product costs is secondary to how well it works

Most important issue with robots is how good the dealer service & back up is.

In my experience the lazy son who can't be arsed milking will tell you it's terrific, the worn out father who built up the place but is now too knackered to work any long will tell you that if the milk price drops or the big December cheque stops, they'll be in trouble.

    Proceed with extreme caution!

That`s a bit blunt, though we can all think of farms where that represents an element of truth .
It does show the importance of seeing as many folks as possible so you can draw your own conclusion.
Robots don`t represent an easy solution, just a different one. - with many advantages & also some downsides.
