    What type of Grease?

What type of grease is everyone using? Do you just stick to manufacturers recommended or search around to find the cheapest?

Go with a suitable one from the oil supplier, makes the orders up to get free deliver (if needed!) but also has to be suitable both in application and decent tubes that work well. Nothing worse than finding you have a tube design that a chore to use. Price comes into it as well.

Depends on the application; sometimes the correct grease is critical for long term operation. Example: I've been advised that slew bearings in a 360 should be greased only with a lithium based grease coz it is apparently optimized for rolling bearings. The worst grease to use would be molybdenum based, coz it is optimized for sliding surfaces. Slew bearings need to roll. If they don't, they'll get a flat surface - and *never* roll!

    Correct, FF?

Yes John, grease can be a bit like gear oils where it can be more important what the internal components are doing and what they are made out of- some gear oils will attack (iirc) phosphor bronze so require the correct spec.

Grease can be the same in needing different properties to suit different applications, although sometimes when you come across something bone dry you do think that anything would be better than metal to metal!
