    Which do you prefer and why ?

    6 don't slip, but it can be a pain if you are limited with space for your ratchet.

    i prefer 6 sided dont slip as easily unless the nut is mullered have also got the ones that grip to flats good for getting mullered nuts off.

    Not if you have a decent ratchet. The better ones have much more teeth in them than the cheaper ones which negates this problem.

    6, until you find one of those 12 sided bolts under a land rover axle..... and then it can take ages to find the right size 12 sided socket kicking around in the workshop spares cupboard!

    Six, mostly, but remember it's not always possible to use a ratchet on something thats really stubborn (more teeth = finer teeth). A long knucklebar can be a pain in an awkward place with a 6-sided socket.
