How much is poor quality hay delivered to Pembrokeshire at present? (the sort of stuff I could feed to dry suckler cows next winter).

Also, will it come down. In price if I wait til April or May to buy it.

Just bought 500 5ft barley stored outside but singularly for 6 a piece, he will load, why bother baling it for that? So much straw here everywhere nothing selling, thought I would use some sense and buy next years as there will be FA as things stand, lots will be chopped.

    Thanks

    Re: Forage Prices

it wasnt till i started deliverin our own hay and straw into farms myself for certain dealers that i realised how little they earn...

around 10 a ton on big bale hay and straw and 10-20p a bale for conventionals... so around 200 a load, which i think is very fare...
many farmers try dealing direct with me once they see the sign writtin on lorry... like i tell them for 200 a load i'll stick with the dealer where i no i'll get paid and where they have sold numerous loads in past for me..

    Re: Forage Prices

We have straw in rows that would of baled yesterday, and if wasn't for fact balers are at back of she'd all cleaned off ready for service we'd of baled it, instead tedded it out and topped it. Done nice job, will be able to direct drill it or worst way sumo it in front of drill... Anything not to have to plough it..

    Re: Forage Prices

I warned all my regular customers this past year to have bought from me all they would need before Christmas cos after that it would be hard to get. Some of them thought I was pulling a fly one but soon changed their tune as the sheds emptied. Then they were thankful that I stopped selling to new customers in October.
