Dream on Gary! That 1455 at 25k is ridiculous, think he will have it in stock a while. Your 1056 would prob beat it anyway on general farm work, it certainly would on haulage work

Seems Ted wants to keep it. It can go in the shed with all of the other stuff he doesn't want to sell.

    Re: Case 1455 gearbox

I used to drive an 856xl 40k and the top gear was a big jump took a while to get to 40k with a 9t salop!
So gary is it really easy to change 30k 956/1056 to 40k? Have a haulage job that might be a bit slow for 30k. And also asume your 1056 has been turboed to get 144! at the shaft?
Spent quite a bit on my 956 getting engine rebuilt and have added assistor ram and front linkage but could do with some more power but don't really want to break it! Turbo v open up pump(how/how much) v leave well alone? Can't make up mind.

My 1056 was 95 at shaft when I bought it and did quite a bit of work with it before I turbo'd it. It was a good puller but compared to today's standards it was hopeless. When I got it turbo'd it was at 117 at shaft but as time went on the pump got an extra half a turn now and again and ended up at 144. I know it's a lot of a 1056 but what a machine it is. From umbilical pumping 14 hours straight to leading grass with a 14 tonne trailer. Nothing has been a problem for it. My only advice to any1 goin to turbo a 9/1056 is get a stepped core radiator and an extra core put in. Mine did nothing but boil after turbo then the head gasket went. Since radiator recore it's been a dream. The engine and gearbox has held up to everything. I would defiantly turbo it. The whistle and the shut off noise they make are unreal. Only reason I'm selling mine is because I've always wanted a 1455 and had a go on 1 a few months ago and what a tool it was.

As for the 30k to 40k I can't remember exactly how as I was only about 13/14 when we did it. We took right wheel off and diesel tank and went through the size and theirs 2 cogs on the gear reduction lever. U take them out and swap them round so where as the 30k box the high gear will be lift it up and when changed to 40k u push lever down for high gear if that makes sence? I wish I took pictures of it when we did it.

Ill ring that ex case mechanic who did them both and ask what he did. Had them both done in 2 days so can't of been a major job

    30 t0 40k upgrade !!!

The swap over of gears on upper & lower shafts is in the speed reucer section in front of diff compartment .

To do it its cab off, split at clutch and progressively strip box from front until speed reducer section is reached, swap gears and rebuild.

    quite time consuming????

Can you convert the earlier red and cream international tractors to 40k or is it just the case ones?

    Re: Case 1455 gearbox

They can all in theory be converted, its just asevere question of time !!

The only m/c in recent years with a quick change was the Maxxum.'s

Dont know how you'd get on at 40k with the early gear oil transmissons, the 30k ones would barely pull top gear on a cold morning
